About

The people behind Big Green

A Bowmanville tree care outfit run by a working arborist, not a call centre. Same person quotes the job, runs the crew and answers the phone afterwards.

Meet Chris Eble-Scott

Big Green Tree Care is owned and run by Chris Eble-Scott, an arborist based in Bowmanville. He is on nearly every job: up the tree, on the controls, or standing in the driveway walking a homeowner through what is about to happen and why.

He started Big Green in 2023 after years in the trade, because he loves arboriculture. The idea was simple: show up when you say you will, do the work to a standard you would accept on your own property, and leave the yard cleaner than you found it.

Since then the company has grown into a full crew running removals, pruning, stump grinding, lot clearing and 24/7 storm response across Durham Region and Northumberland County, from Bowmanville west to Oshawa and east through Port Hope, Cobourg, [Grafton](/tree-service-grafton) and Roseneath.

Qualifications, insurance and safety

Tree work is one of the few trades where a bad decision damages a house or injures someone in seconds. That is why the training goes across the whole crew of five, not just whoever happens to be holding the saw that day.

Every one of them carries Working at Heights, first aid and aerial rescue training, and is certified on the equipment they run. Four of the five hold a college diploma in arboriculture. Two are ticketed to operate the Merlo.

Big Green is fully insured and carries WSIB coverage. Certificates for both are available on request before any work starts, and we would rather you asked. Anyone quoting your tree work should be able to hand those over without hesitating. If they cannot, the liability for an injury in your garden has a way of becoming yours.

The equipment

The centrepiece is a Merlo grapplesaw telehandler. It grabs a section of trunk, cuts it while holding it, and sets it down where we want it, which means large limbs over a roof or a fence never swing on a rope at all. It also reaches over obstacles a bucket truck cannot get near, so we can work tight backyards and laneways without dismantling a fence to get in.

Around it we run climbing and rigging gear for the trees no machine can reach, chippers for brush, a stump grinder for what is left in the ground, and trailers to haul everything off site the same day. Storm calls get the same kit, at whatever hour the tree came down.

If you want the detail on how a removal is actually sequenced, that is written out on the tree removal page.

Got questions?

About us questions

Are you insured, and can I see proof?

Yes, fully insured and covered by WSIB, and we will send certificates for both before we start. Ask any tree contractor for that in writing before somebody puts a saw in a tree over your roof. If they cannot produce it, the risk of a dropped limb or an injury in your garden lands on you.

What training does your crew actually have?

All five of us hold Working at Heights, first aid and aerial rescue training, plus equipment certificates for the gear we run, chainsaw and chipper included. Four of the five have a college diploma in arboriculture, and two are ticketed to operate the Merlo grapplesaw. Aerial rescue is the one worth asking about specifically: it means if a climber gets into trouble in the canopy, the people on the ground can get them out rather than waiting on the fire department.

Will Chris actually be on my job?

On nearly every one. That is the point of how the business is set up: the person who quotes your tree plans the rigging and answers the phone afterwards. Nothing gets sold by someone who will never see the site.

How long have you been operating?

Big Green Tree Care was founded in 2023 and has grown into a full crew running removals, pruning, stump grinding, lot clearing and 24/7 storm response across Durham Region and Northumberland County.

Do you give free estimates?

Always, and on site. We will also tell you if your tree does not need work this year, which is not something you can establish from a photo.

Still unsure?

Have a quick chat with Chris, no pressure.
